Object Portrait Series, 2018-9
Acrylic on canvas.
The painting series explores the nuanced interplay between subjects and objects, delving into the philosophical and ethical implications of this relationship. Traditionally, the objectification of subjects has been criticized for leading to dehumanization and various forms of atrocities. By stripping individuals of their agency and reducing them to mere objects, society often perpetuates harm and violence.
In contrast, this series seeks to invert the paradigm by examining the potential of “subjectifying” objects. Through this lens, inanimate entities are imbued with qualities typically reserved for sentient beings, such as emotion, intention, and agency.
