Becoming Nature is an outdoor interactive installation that employs computer vision to detect human presence and reflect their movements as natural elements within a virtual landscape.
As viewers engage, the virtual natural elements continuously transform without logical consistency, akin to a dream. This dreamlike fluidity allows viewers to experience a sense of self akin to flowing water, unbound by fixed identity. The installation’s transitory nature of identity draws inspiration from Zhuangzi’s “dream of the butterfly,” a famous Chinese philosopher’s parable. In this parable, Zhuangzi dreams of being a butterfly, and upon awakening, he questions whether he is a man who dreamed of being a butterfly or a butterfly dreaming he is a man.
